Richard Heeks

‘I love photographing beautiful things. I like spectacular too. So far, I’ve captured moments, like the moment a swan leaps out of the water to take off, and the moment a soap bubble begins to pop.’ – Richard Heeks

In 2009 Heeks became famous for photographing soap bubbles. His  work was featured in most of the UK national press. I have chosen to study Richard Heeks as I was inspired by the use of bubble to create more interest and emotion in his photography, I wish to carry this forward as it shows use of experimentation and allowing your self to have a broad imagination.

Reflection in Bubble

For reflection in a bubble of landscape your yourself, you must shoot the photograph when the air is still. A telephoto lens or a zoom lens would be used to help create an effect.

Winter Bubbles

In this image Heeks wants to create an enchanting image that creates a magical feeling that allows you to feel like a child again, being fascinated and drawn in by the sight of bubbles . He has  used lines to draw into the main point of interest, these and blued as part of the background, your  eyes are lead straight to the bubble because of this. He has used a large aperture to create less depth of field as the background is blurred this helps make the bubble stand out more and look more important. He has used a low ISO and a  fast shutter speed. This helps to bring light in to the foreground and to enhance the colours  . They have done this in a location which would have been planned and to create this drawing in of your eye . it has created an abstract image of the surroundings and interesting colours through the bubbles causing a exciting mood.

The use of various bubble and their reflection create an interest and  shows of the main point of interest greatly. I feel the main focal point is the bubble and it draws you in to the image initially as it is on four of the hot spots using the rule of thirds to its advantage . A low ISO and fast shutter speed were used. A Large aperture was used to create a shallow depth of field. I feel this image stimulates your imagination and excitement. They have done this in a location which would have been planned and to create this calming mood by using the golden hour to create this photo. it has created an abstract image of the natural surroundings causing a calming mood.
